Getting here
Narni sits on top of a hill, and the old town is almost entirely closed to cars. Here is how to get here, and where to leave the car.

By car, and where to leave it
Narni sits on top of a hill. From the A1 motorway take the Orte exit, then the E45 towards Terni to the Narni exit; from the Flaminia (SS3) you enter through Porta Ternana from the north, or Porta Romana from the south.
The Suffragio car park is the largest and the easiest. Coming along the SS3, turn into via Campagnani just before Porta Ternana, following the signs for the old town car park. It is open around the clock, has both free and paid spaces, and lifts take you up to the old town.
Alternatively, you can find parking along Via Vittorio Emanuele, near the Carabinieri station. From there, a short walk of just a few meters brings you easily to La Dama Stanca.
The limited traffic zone, and your luggage
The old town is a limited traffic zone, with camera-controlled gates reading number plates. One of the three is at the entrance of via XX Settembre — our own street. Not something to find out with a car full of luggage.
That gate is active on weekdays from 00:00 to 07:00 and from 19:00 to 24:00; on Sundays and public holidays from 00:00 to 07:00 and from 10:00 to 24:00. While it is active you cannot pass without a permit.
Write to us and we will sort it out, and where it is needed the council issues temporary permits. The hours can change by council order.
By train, and the bus that carries on
The station is called Narni-Amelia and it is in neither Narni nor Amelia: it sits down in the valley at Narni Scalo, on the Rome–Ancona line. About an hour from Rome, some twenty minutes from Terni.
From the station to the old town there is Narni Link, the bus you catch in the square outside: it costs €1.30 and can be bought together with your train ticket, in one go, through any Trenitalia channel. It ends at the Suffragio car park, and lifts take you up from there.

From Rome Fiumicino airport
From Fiumicino it is one change and about two hours. Two ways: the FL1 train to Orte and there the Rome–Ancona regional to Narni-Amelia, or the Leonardo Express to Roma Termini and the same regional from there.
